Trolley Night after Tornado
(Memphis) More tornado warning sirens screaming outside. From a mild afternoon, the eerie calm and sudden darkness of the storm has fallen over Memphis again. The gusting rains and wildly waving branches of the trees threaten. Satellite tv halts. Lights blink. Praying that the gales pass over without a strike, we all hole up in our interior rooms away from the windows with our flashlights until calm returns. Should we turn off the gas heater along with other electrical devices? Earlier today I took two paintings to be installed at 504 S. Main in a group exhibit for Trolley Night, the regular last Friday night of the month Gallery Open House held downtown on Main Street. This particular exhibit is organized by Artist Link members in the Downtown Presbyterian Church's business officewhich is near the Butler Trolley Stop and directly across from Bluff City Coffee. The other street nearby is G E Patterson where The Arcade Restaurant is. The public is welcome to come in from 6 to 9 Friday evening, May 27, if we are all still here, to meet some of the staff from Downtown Presbyterian which holds services on Tennessee Avenue at 10:45 Sundays (I think that's what they said) as well as some of the seven participating artists in this show.

Memphis in May
(Memphis) During the Artist's Link Breakfast meeting this past week at Holiday Deli on Poplar, attendees heard about exhibits at the MOMA from Shelia and Jim who had just returned from a visit to NY. Norm announced he and two other collaborators would be exhibiting at WKNO in September. Members quizzed him on the theme of the show and offered suggestions for titles of the exhibition. Some went by The Dixon afterwards to see Private Memphis, works from fine art collections in the city.
The exhibit included fine examples of American genre painting from about one hundred years ago in the Plough room, and nudes in the Crump room. "Fusion" alone is worth the price of admission. For those who love dogs and hunting, wonderful works of these subjects are also up. The exhibit also includes some works by Belgian painters.
On this sunny day, a visit to North Main Street between Union and Peabody revealed an active lunch crowd at the outdoor patios of Flight, Local and Majestic. These restaurants are located just around the corner from the world famous Tea Room. Directly behind them on Front Street is a parking garage for $6.00 a day near the former Post Office, now Law Library.

May You Find Art in Memphis
Being that Belgium is the honored country this year by the Memphis in May Festival, their fabulous Surrealists are on exhibit at The Brooks Art Museum.
I enjoyed visiting Gallery 56 yesterday as well and noticed that Frames 1910 has the new Memphis in May poster.
At breakfast with the Artists Link members, Martha Stephens passed out cards about a group exhibit called Healing Through Art opening Friday, May 13th from 5 to 7 pm which is honoring cancer survivor artists at the Wings Gallery 100 N. Humphreys Blvd in Memphis. And member Jane told us about her family's home and ten acres in Bartlett being for sale.

Art that is Out of this World
(Cocoa Beach, Florida) I was happy to find next to the IMAX film about the Hubble and before the simulated Space Launch ride, a wonderful Art Exhibition in the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Hope you have the opportunity to view it on your next visit to the Space Center Campus at Cape Canaveral, on Florida's East Coast near where many cruise ships depart. (Follow the link for ticket admission information. Sometimes admission ticket promotional discounts are on their website.)
